Bureaucracy…? What bureaucracy…?

Well, the awaited nightmare did not materialize… The people we are using to help us with the forms and government registrations didn’t have time on Monday so we arranged to meet up on Tuesday to get our NIE’s… Numero Identidad Extranjeros, or foreigner identification number… Because I had time on Monday I thought it might be a good use of the time to turn up at the employment exchange, Oficina de Empleo, and to find out which forms I needed to register as looking for work…

ME ON THE WAY TO THE DOLE OFFICE

I took a friend to help with the translations if needed. We arrived just after 8 AM and the office opened at 08:30 we took a ticket and waited. It wasn’t long and I asked all the questions myself… In Spanish… The señora at the desk was impressed and commented that I was not a typical Brit Abroad which I took as a compliment… Instead of sending me away to get the right forms, which I was led to believe was the norm, she did everything there and then and told me to bring the missing NIE the next day or the day after… Result…
The NIE was also pretty easy but that was because we had professional help… Someone queued up for us and filled out the necessary forms and paid the tax… We just had to turn up with our passports at 08:30, we were out by 09:00…
The next day I registered modulo 030 at the hacienda for tax purposes and took my NIE to the dole office… I was set… After calling the moving company we found out they also needed us to register locally at the Ayuntamiento in Adeje… This is like registering at the Einwohnermeldeamt in Germany… This also went off without a hitch…
So now we are legal and registered, the only things left to do are to register as permanent residents at the police station and register with the social security for medical coverage… Although the SBK have known for months that we are coming here, it took another phone call today to get them to send out the required forms so we can get medical help… Until then we are tourists…
We have received some mail, but not as much as we were expecting… And no parcels have arrived up to now…

WAITING OUTSIDE THE AYUNTAMIENTO FOR CHICKEN

We just finished the week off with chicken at a local restaurant in Adeje… Oasis.

RIGHT NEXT TO THE TOWN HALL

They’ve been there since 1962, get there early or be prepared to wait… The spicy chicken is the best for me…

    Hi Tim & Christina,
It’s great to see that your first week went well – sounds like you’ve got some really nice neighbours.
Also, nice to read that you are adhering to a simple low alcohol diet 😉
